En primer lugar, registra el ritmo card\u00edaco de forma continuada para detectar ritmos anormales (detecci\u00f3n). Cuando la frecuencia card\u00edaca es demasiado lenta, el marcapasos estimula el m\u00fasculo card\u00edaco enviando se\u00f1ales el\u00e9ctricas que corrigen el ritmo card\u00edaco lento (estimulaci\u00f3n). Es decir, el marcapasos \u00abpercibe\u00bb el ritmo card\u00edaco de forma continua, pero solo \u00abestimula\u00bb al coraz\u00f3n cuando es necesario.<\/p>\n<p>Los marcapasos cuentan con funciones adicionales para optimizar el ritmo card\u00edaco. Una de estas funciones es la de sensor (conocida, tambi\u00e9n, como tasa de respuesta). Un sensor detecta la actividad f\u00edsica (ya sea a trav\u00e9s del movimiento del cuerpo, la frecuencia respiratoria o la contractilidad card\u00edaca) y, en consecuencia, el marcapasos aumenta la frecuencia card\u00edaca cuando sea necesario (por ejemplo, durante el ejercicio).<\/p>\n<p>Un marcapasos consta de dos partes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Generador de pulso: una peque\u00f1a caja o carcasa met\u00e1lica que contiene la bater\u00eda del marcapasos y el circuito el\u00e9ctrico que detecta los latidos del coraz\u00f3n y produce las se\u00f1ales el\u00e9ctricas.<\/li>\n<li>Cables: finos alambres aislados que est\u00e1n conectados con el generador de impulsos en un extremo y con una c\u00e1mara del coraz\u00f3n en el otro extremo.
